This article explains how a member can be removed from the membership list.
Suomisport’s membership management operates in accordance with the Finnish Associations Act. When resigning, a member must notify the club of their resignation.
When a club is deciding/terminating a person's membership, it is always worth considering the principles of the Associations Act (below) and what the club's own rules state as the principles of dismissal. It is the club's duty to maintain memberships, and usually membership is terminated if the person has not been involved in the activities or has not paid the membership fee.
According to the Associations Act:
A member may resign from an association at any time by notifying the association’s board or its chair in writing. A member may also resign by notifying the association at a meeting so that it is entered into the minutes. The bylaws may stipulate that the resignation will take effect only after a specified period following the notice of resignation.
An association may expel a member based on the grounds specified in the bylaws and the general grounds in the Associations Act if the member has failed to fulfill the obligations to which they committed by joining the association, or has, through their conduct in or outside the association, significantly harmed the association; or no longer meets the conditions for membership specified by law or in the association’s bylaws.
In Suomisport, only a club user can remove a member from the association’s membership list. A member cannot remove themself from a member class. Members can be removed either from a member class or directly from the member list page.
How to remove a member
- From the club home page, go to Members, and in the membership list click the three‑dot menu next to the person’s name.
- Select Remove.
- When removed, the person disappears from the membership list, but is not removed entirely from the club’s reports. The Extended member data report will retain the person’s basic details as well as the join date and removal date. The person’s membership card is removed, and any open (unpaid) payments are removed.
